The debacle of ‘how to hold an iPhone 4‘ appears to have finally reached management level with Mark Papermaster (what a fantastic surname for a technology man!) leaving Apple.

I’m sure it may be a while before anybody announces if he ‘jumped or was pushed’ but in one of the more embarrassing moments for the cool, smooth, smart Apple company, it was surely inevitable that someone would have to be sacrificed eventually. Mark Papermaster (let’s say it again!) was head of Apple’s iPhone and iPod hardware engineering department having joined the company in 2009 from IBM.

Having tried to convince Apple customers that there was nothing wrong with the iPhone 4 (it was just a signal algorithm thing-ummy-jig and then owned up to perhaps there is a ‘tinsy-winsy little’ problem and offered everyone new cases), there was perhaps a hope that Mr Papermaster’s (said it again!) leaving may slip under the radar (assuming you hold it in your left hand!).

However it’s never good to see anyone lose their job, and after 25 years at IBM we wish Mark the best of luck in his future.
