Today we announce the sad news of the death of yet another celebrity… following the deaths in the past weeks of Tony Curtis and Norman Wisdom today marks the passing away of Charlie the Chimp, the smoking monkey.

Charlie the chimpanzee was (in)famous for smoking and has died at the ripe old age of 52 (living 10 years longer than the average chimp). In spite of the health concerns and attempts by zoo keepers to encourage a healthier lifestyle, it appears that being a smoking monkey wasn’t the cause of death as Charlie had been receiving special care, medication and a high protein diet with vitamins and minerals.

So sadly, Charlie, the smoking monkey, can no longer entertain at his South African zoo and will be sorely missed by visitors… however, there must be a great party going on somewhere with the demise of these three great entertainers!
